I purchased a Cougar Eliminator scoop and added 1-1/2" in height to accommodate the air cleaner. It's a functional scoop.

The last time we went to the track it ran about a 13.95 and that was granny shifting. I never set up the clutch pedal right and you had to drop the rpms to get to the next gear. Also had a problem at 5,800 rpm where the engine would break up. Seems it was an over pumped lifter that was keeping an intake valve open. Humm... all fixed now. That's why it's called theMustangEliminator
The latest addition: a Parker Racing FunnelWeb Intake Manifold from Australia.
Here it is, isn't it a beauty? It will run circles around Weiand & Edelbrock with significant increases in horsepower and torque through the entire power band. For more info on this intake go to

I still have a lot of work to do on it though. It needs a new brake booster, the power steering sensor is shot and the rear air shocks need replacing. ... One of these days.
I suppose I should dig out some of the photos of the restoration. If I knew then what I know now, I would have trashed this car and got one in better shape. I replaced both rear quarter panels, both doors and front fenders, the entire floor and half the firewall. Also replaced three tongue boxes and the inner rocker panels. The rust was extensive. Of course I did all this welding with a stick welder before I bought the MIG. I also reinforced the frame with sub frame connectors and installed the roll bar for strength.
History: The year was 1970. This was my 1967 Cougar XR7. I bought it in July 1969. A beautiful car, leather interior, 289 2bbl with an automatic transmission.

This is the only picture I have. Shown here with 3-2bbl carburetors, lots of mods to the engine, a 4-speed tranny with 4.11:1 rear and Torque Thruster wheels.
